Itinerary description
An easily accessible hike to the highest massif in the Bergen area. Park your car at the Svartavatnet parking lot, walk past the unattractive development of a new hydro dam and walk to the Redningshytta or safety cabin, around 600 m.a.s.l. This should only take about an hour or so. From here on, the walk gets progressively more interesting and scenic. The paths climbs steeply on the rugged, eroded plateau of Gullfjellet, providing wonderful views in all directions. Make sure to spot the imposing hulk of the Folgefonna icecap towards the South-East on a clear day.
