Itinerary description
A pleasant loop that gets you out on the banks (well actually onto an island) of the Red River, where there are banana groves, house boats and the odd nudist! The hike starts from the Long Bien Bridge designed by Gustave Eiffel (of "Tower" fame) and then goes up stream on the island to come out close to the Sofitel Plaza Hotel and goes back past the Truc Bac Lake. Along the way I had lunch (in Ta Hien street there is a restaurant on the left side with food from Hue), coffee on the Truc Bac Lake and the last detour is for Bia Hoi in the old quarter. My GPS batteries ran out along the way, so there may be two "short cuts" on the tracks.
The video is from a different hike in 2013 where I went down stream on the island...
Warnings (or whatever):
1. During the rainy season the island may be completely underwater and therefore unhikeable.
2. The dogs are generally friendly, if not, just pretend to pick up a stone from the ground.
3. I have twice encountered middle-aged male nudists on this hike. Don't worry, they are friendly so just ignore them and keep going!
