Itinerary description
Summary:
-Ruins of Chateau de Herbeumont
-Panorama over the ruins and viadact de Herbeumont
-Viewing point Libaipire overlooking Tombeau du Chevalier
-Wading through the Semois
Start your walk in the heart of Herbeumont. Lots of parking possibilities.
There’s also a tourist information where you can buy maps of the area.
First you climb to the ruins of the 13th century castle of Herbeumont. It was destroyed in the 17th century.
Take your time to wander around at the ruins, it has lots of platforms!
Then we descended towards the Viaduct de Herbeumont where we walked over.
Climbing out of there to get to a viewing point with a great panorama over the surroundings you just walked through: the ruins and the viaduct.
Next highlight: point de vue de libaipire, two belvederes overlooking the Tombeau du Chevalier and the Semois meandering around.
You can then choose to either descend towards the Semois or follow a quiet forest road (which we did).
Later we descended to a spot at the Semois where we had to wade through the river.
The beginning of the descend requires a bit of improvisation since they cut some trees and therefor the path vanished for about 100-200 meters. Nothing too extreme though!
The descend goes through a very lovely forest where a small stream guides you along!
The wading was not too hard, maximum knee deep and the water wasnt going too strong.
It was tons of fun though -:)

N’est plus à jour! Not possible anymore
What part is no longer possible? The part where you walk through the big fence and descend towards the Semois?
The path before the little lake is not yet accessible
Ok, thanks for the update!

Moderate
Zeer mooie wandeling maar de brug over de Semois is niet langer bereikbaar, het water van de Semois stond ook te hoog om deze te voet over te steken. Een omweggetje van 5 km was het gevolg.
