Itinerary description
Circular route designed only to take in a truly spectacular 4km section through a canyon. As of 2022 the Ayuntamiento de Lentegí has improved existing paths and created new ones to make a couple of outstanding circular routes that are far better than this one. Please search my trails for the other "Hidden Valley" options.

We hiked this trail March 2022 in the opposite direction (Otívar - Lentegí - Rio Lentegí - A4050 - Rio Verde - Otívar). Between Otívar to Lentegí it was really nice, with good tracks and trails, partly signposted by local authorities. A bit south of Lentegí the route makes a somewhat odd excursion that we didn't do. There is also a new trail crossing the barranco immediately south of Lentegí. The area around the Rio Lentegí is very nice, signposted, and well-maintained by local authorities with various PRs. Between the A4050 and the Cortijo de la Burra there is a short section on a track that is completely overgrown with bushes. This section is very difficult and time-consuming to pass. We used hiking poles to hack a way through, but it would be good to search for an alternative route here. The route near the reservoir above El Cargadero passes for a short section over steep scree.
Overall a great route, but the section between the A4050 and Otívar could be nicer, but that may take local initiatives to create and maintain PRs in this area like was done around Lentegí.
It would be useful if you could add a comment here with a link to your other Hidden Valley tracks — I only found them after I had posted the comment above (and the same with comments on your other Hidden Valley tracks to show alternatives).
Hi Gerritholl - thanks for your comments. It had not occurred to me to update the route comment I made in 2015, but I will do so based on your feedback. This is an area much improved by the Ayuntamiento de Lentegí and the newer Hidden Valley routes I have uploaded are far better than the original. So, many thanks for your comments.
