Itinerary description
We went to visit the beautiful monastery and decided to do an afternoon hike near the mountains there.
We essentially hiked to a place where nearby was a cave which has religious significance and which is next to a chapel. The cave is just before reaching chapel going up some steps on the left. It's interesting to say the least.
We decided to attempt to hike up to Červenata Stena (1,493 mts) keeping in mind that we started late and it was foggy high up in those mountains. Long story short, we only made it to a magnificent lookout point that was around 850 mts high and it was a gorgeous view of the valley to the west. Even if you go up to the summit, I still recommend stopping here for a break/photos/snack.
This area is horrendous with reception/GPS so the recording is definitely not very accurate and all over the place. Either way, it's simple to follow the trail. It's straight through the chapel (east) and it has yellow markings (my hiking app had a yellow-coded trail but this is not the one you take. This one starts also near the chapel but on the right side where you go past some gates) and it's clear in places where you need to pay extra attention. At times you also see signs in Cyrillic pointing to the trail. Parts of the trail are sometimes difficult to find but follow the markers and you'll be fine.
It's a nice place to hike around and is especially beautiful in autumn. Take caution at times as we found ourselves witn a snake that looked venomous although could not find what species it belonged to.
