Itinerary description
Really fun and exciting hiking. Great views of the coast. One of the best hiking you can do if you are staying at the south area of the city of Tarragona (Cambrils, Salou....)
Technical Difficulty:
Even though any well trained hiker shouldn't expect any problem, it is not an easy hike.
Most of the way up, the path follows a rocky ridge (with very great views on both sides), where you will have to do some prety easy climbings.
Anyway, the most complicated areas are equipped with ropes for making it safer, even though they are not strictly necessary. Any person who is used to walk in these kind of terrains shouldn't expect great difficulties.
Those who are very afraid of heighs may have problems in a couple of places.
It is a really secluded area. You are likely not to find any other group of people during the hiking.
Take also into account that the trail will become much more difficult if you do it in the opposite direction. As usual, climbig up the ridge is much easier than climbing it down.
Clima:
the area is usually very windy and especially sunny during summer. There are few shades and you will not find water Therefore, make sure you are protecting from sun and carrying enough water. Some places of the hike can become dangerous under rain conditions or if you expect the rock to be wet.
Navigation:
You can find pole-signs in most of the crossroads. You shouldn’t have problems if you are carrying a map or, of course, the track in a GPS. Due to the lack of vegetation, you have a lot of visual references most of the time. The ridge is marked with paint on rocks. Pay attention on them, since they indicate the easiest path to follow.
Trail description (see also waypoints):
You can park without problems at the starting point or at any place you find in Pratdip town.
The first part of the path is quite normal, until you get to the “Cresta de la Seda” (The ridge), where the most technical and funny part takes place.
After the Cresta you will arrive at a plateau. Once there, after some meters you will find the “Pas dels Siscus” , a short channel equipped with chains. At this point, you can either do a shortcut by climbing the channel or skipping this technical pass by following the path on the left (the track is actually doing the latter)
You will get to the summit of Mont-Redon, with great views.
The way down is in general pretty easy. There is a slightly exposed flank though, just about 500m after the summit . It is very short, but it may seem quite long from a distance perspective. Some meters before that flanking you may have seen a rope. That rope follows a path up that brings you to the Cavall Bernat Summit after a short climbing. We skipped that part.
After this point, the more you walk the easier the path, ending up into a quiet walk along a pine forest that lead you back to Pratdip town.
