Itinerary description
Hiking - Riserva naturale dei Monti Pelati ("Barren Mounts"). The CAI #751 ridge trail develops across this natural reserve which embraces a geological anomaly. Rocks here are different from those of nearby areas and are rich in magnesium carbonate, its whitish substance can be spotted in several points. The mineral prevents most vegetation from taking root giving this ridge a very particular look and a distinct atmosphere. Shouldn't the eye fall on the surrounding lush meadows and woods, one may have the impression of visiting certain places in Mexico or the US Southwest. Not geology-wise but in terms of barren environment. It proved pretty warm on a sunny day at the end of March, therefore I assume it can be uncomfortably hot in summer days.
Some vegetation, and a nice shaded picnic area, can be found near Torre Cives, an observation tower dating back to the XII century.

Difficult
I did this hike in autumn and it proved fully satisfactory both for panoramas and for the geological curiosity
I grade the hike as difficult because the trial is spoilt in many points.
