Itinerary description

Holmbukttinden is a fantastic ski peak and the easiest way to the county's highest mountain; Jihekkevarri . I have previously also walked the Jiehkkevarrit traverse via Holmbukttinden. Here is the tour description from our trip to Holmbukttinden.

The starting point for the trip is Indre Holmbukta. Indre Holmbukt is located about 9 kilometers from the church in Lakselvbukt and there is a large parking lot by the road.

From the parking lot, we walked in the sparse pine forest in the direction of Tverrelva. At about 200 meters above sea level, the forest is finished, and the route continues along a moraine ridge on the north side of Tverrelva. At about 500 masl, the route turns north, and it becomes steeper on the south-facing side - which during the high season in spring may be exposed to landslides. After about 400 meters of altitude with about 35 degrees, it slopes a little at about 900 meters above sea level. The slightly slower section lasts for a few hundred meters before it becomes steeper again towards the channel that you have to pass to get up on the northern ridge to Holmbukttinden. The gutter that takes you up to about 1300 masl is 35-40 degrees steep in just under 100 meters. We had to get rid of the skis at the top of the gutter. After the boys,it slows down a bit again, and there is a gentle ascent up to the northern ridge at around 1400 masl.

We followed the ridge to the top and were able to enjoy the view of the many fantastic neighboring mountains, such as Fugldalsfjellet , Jiehkkevarri and Lakselvtindene. In strong winds and on quite hard riding we had to get off the skis a short section where the back is at its narrowest. From the top there are fantastic views towards the mainland Tromsø and large parts of the southern half of the Lyngen Peninsula .

The return went according to the same route, where we could enjoy fine skiing. In the spring, one must be a little aware of landslides under the glacier on the return.
