Itinerary description
We hitchiked from Hpa-An to the track, it took 30 minutes to get a ride. Then 20 minutes to the intersection of the main road.
It took us 15 min to walk from the main road to the beginning of the Eastern track. Foreigners must pay 4000 kyatt for entrance fees.
We hiked 1hours30 to the top... Very steepy stairs but shorter way.
At the top, you can buy souvenirs and drinks. There is a little vegetarian restaurant, quite good (fried rice or noodles for 1000 kyatts).
On the way down, we took the western path... easier way, less steep and only few stairs with nice views along the way. On the western path, there are also people selling biscuits and water. It took us 1 hour to go down. Then you arrive in Lumbini Garden : there are huge lines of buddhas... the most impressiv part is not close to the path but close to the entrance gate.
On the way back, it was easier to hitchhike, we drove 30 minutes to town.
About the track... Most of the track is in the shade under the trees but even in the shade it was very hot. It took us less time than we expected. So if I had to it again, I would go there for sunrise or sunset... The Western path is probably easier to be walked in the dark, but it takes more time. So the Eastern path is a good option if you don't want to wake up too early.
