Itinerary description

This is the last trail of a three days hike from Siglufjörður via Siglunes, Nesdalur, Pútuskörð, Víkurbyrða, Hvanndalir, Gjáin, Fossdalur to Kleifar in Ólafsfjörður. There are two ways to pass the mountains that surround Hvanndalir to reach Kleifar. This trail tracks the so called "short way" via the mountain pass Gjáin. The other way is called the "longer way" and although it is longer in distance the difference in time is supposedly not much. This "short trail" reported here is very steep on both sides of the mountain pass. It is considered easier when there is snow in the pass, but this time we used a line to ascend the last 60 m up to the pass. I do not recommend this trail unless with a local guide.
