Itinerary description

The Ibón de Plan, popularly known as Basa de la Mora, is one of the most magical corners of the Pyrenees. Ancient glaciers shaped the Cotiella massif and gave rise to this beautiful lake surrounded by unique walls and located more than 1,900m high.
The magic of this place, however, is not only given by its beauty, but also by the legend that is told. In fact, its name derives precisely from it.

The legend of the Basa de la Mora:
The people of the Val de Chistau say that formerly, in times of conflict and violent struggles between Moors and Christians, a young Moorish princess came here fleeing the war. However, he was unable to continue on his way, he was lost and his soul and spirit were trapped in the lake forever.
Legend has it that every dawn on Saint John's Day, those who wash their faces with the crystalline water of the Ibón and have a pure and clean heart, can contemplate the figure of the blackberry. Her silhouette rises and dances in the middle of the lake, dressed in jewels and colored snakes that shine with the first rays of dawn.
Such is the tradition of this ibón in the popular culture of the Val de Chistau that there is a saying that has been transmitted from generation to generation: "If ye que i puyas bela maitinada de San Chuan ta ibón and you will not bieses laba-te l'anima… it is only clean güellos, they can see the moorish princess of the peaks ”.
How to get there:
The route to Basa de la Mora is a very popular excursion in the Pyrenees. It can be accessed on foot from the towns of Plan or Saravillo (in both cases with an approximate duration of 3h one way and about 960m of unevenness) or it is also possible to do it in a simpler way: access by car and by track to the refuge of Lavasar (14km) and from here walk to the lake in about 20min.
