Itinerary description

A circular walk to the isolated beach of Playa Antequera from the village of Igueste. This walk is very steep and consists of two very long, steeps ascents and descents on some rough, rocky trails. please see the notes below. There is also a section on a very narrow, exposed path along a cliff face after leaving the beach that will unnerve some walkers. I also had a problem on this section when I arrived at a large 'rock window' marked by two paint splashes. From here, the correct path is clearly visible below and I managed to scramble down to it but I would not recommend this. It is safer to retrace your steps to locate the correct path. This walk should not be attempted in wet or windy weather.

Waypoint 1 - Do not descend the stream-bed here but keep above it following the path to the left. I descended a little way by mistake before scrambling up to regain the path.

Waypoint 2 - The start return path to Igueste is difficult to spot from the beach. After passing the mouth of a barranco by a stone shelter on the beach, look up just above the beach, you will see a rocky outcrop that is roughly pyramid shaped. There is a green paint mark at the bottom of this that you may be able to see. Climb slightly to the left of this and after ascending a few yards, look right to locate a path right running parallel to the beach. Once located, follow the paint marks carefully up to the rock to locate the narrow path above the beach. This path is vertiginous and may be problematic for some.

Waypoint 3 - Be aware that there is a higher very narrow path in this area that you should avoid. I climbed up without realising and arrived at a ˋwindowˋ in the rock marked by two paint splashes. From here, i could clearly see the main path below me and managed to scramble down the rock face to regain it. I do not recommend this, it is safer to turn around to locate the start of the lower path.

Super beautiful but difficult hike. When going back from the beach towards the village make sure you are on the path and not like me and the author of this wikiloc scrambling up the mountain face which will kill you if you slip and fall (no dramatization here).
Next bit is when you head inland again when you get to the barranco de zapata make sure to keep it a good while to your left until the path goes down and you are way inland. Now go into the barranco and go up a little bit and on the right you find the path again which after a short while crosses the barranco again and you start ascending.
THIS IS NOT AN EASY HIKE MAKE SURE YOU GOT WATER AND SUPPLIES!

    Beautiful hike !

Glad you enjoyed the hike, as you say, it is quite difficult and in places, not for the faint-hearted.
