Itinerary description

Puig de Santa Magdalena is an impressive hill located 6 km from the town of Inca. The hill rises to a height of more than 300 meters above sea level and offers spectacular panoramic views of the island. Puig de Santa Magdalena is a place of great tourist and cultural interest due to its rich history and natural attractions.

At the top of the hill at the mountain known as the Puig de la Minyó, the Minyo Cross (Cruz de Minyo) is visible from far away. The cross is built on a truncated conical base and is located at the easternmost end of the Puig de Santa Magdalena and originally dates back to 1901, although it has been rebuilt on several occasions for various reasons. In the truncated conical base we there are two small empty niches, one on the west side and the other on the east side, which long ago respectively housed an image of the Heart of Jesus and another of Saint Magdalene. From this place there are spectacular views of the Bay of Alcúdia, the Sierra de Tramuntana and the central area of the island.
From the cross a path descends a very steep slope, known as “Coster dels Frares”, which ends at a wide path where there is a wooden railing on the right that serves as a viewpoint. From there is a straight and comfortable path to the hill where a Recreation Area is located, equipped with benches, tables and barbecues.

From this area the path heads towards the summit of Puig de Son Sastre, climbing 88 stone steps, which ends on an esplanade where the Hermitage of Santa Magdalena is located, the house of the donat (person who takes care of the oratory), an inn and a restaurant. The hermitage dedicated to Magdalena is a Gothic construction of medieval origin (14th century). It has an impressive Gothic façade with a round portal with a small rose window above. At the top of the building there is a small bell tower with a bell. The interior has a rectangular floor plan and in the main altarpiece there is an image of Saint Magdalena. From the esplanade there are excellent views the bay of Alcudia, the inland area and the Serra de Tramuntana. From this place the path descents to Inca.

The path: From Inca (train station Constància - Hospital d'Inca Estació) there is a first section without slope of 3-4 kilometers. The second section is the ascent that runs between pines, holm oaks, wild olive trees and bushes. The landscape is very beautiful with spectacular views of the bay of Alcudia, the Sierra de Tramuntana and the central area of the island. The return to Inca (train station Constància - Hospital d'Inca Estació) follows a partly different path.
