Itinerary description
A short drive from Istan and a lovely walk in the valley of the Rio Verde ending at a series of cascades and pools.
We parked short of the recommended parking space because the road had turned into a stony track and we had a hire car. It would have been no worse to go a km or so further on and park.
The valley is beautiful but has more houses than I expected. The cascades and pools - charcos - are stunning. There is a waterfall just beyond where we turned around. To get to it you have to wade 30m or so in the river and in January it was freezing cold. The riverbed there is also very slippery and best to use walking sticks. The riverbank at the cascades also requires a bit of scrambling on slippery rocks.
