Itinerary description

A dramatic high-level walk that zig zags out of the valley from BEINTZA towards the rocky crags of the mountain pass of ORRAITA (865m) below the craggy summit of MUNAZORROTZ/BONOZORROTZ (1020m). From here you can extend the walk (out and back) along wide grassy ridge tops, climbing easily to the summit of SOROTXIPI (1068m) with panoramic views of the higher Pyrenees to the east. Returning back to the mountain shoulder below MUNAZORROTZ the path dips down to the lakes and natural reserve of LEURTZA which makes an idylic place to stop for a picnic and a swim. The walk then leads down a steam gulley through dense oak and beech woods towards the village of URROTZ. From here there is a direct ascent past bordas and fast flowing mountain streams to the house.
NOTE: A walk only to be done in good weather. Some intricate turns and minor paths mean that you need to watch the map (or follow our notes) with care.
