Itinerary description

This climb starts from the hamlet of Aurtitz in Ituren with a spectacular, steep ascent of the Mountain Mendaur via dramatic stream gullies and twisted oak woods. Excluding a picnic stop at the reservoir allow a good 3 hrs for the steep ascent to the grassy flanks of Mendaur and up the stone steps to the chapel of La Trinidad (1130m) at its summit. The descent is through dramatic beech woods, past bordas and streams. As the path swings westwards you come to another delightful picnic stop in the hills above Elgorriaga at Iturbideko Borda with its dolmens, fountain and information panels before heading directly downhill along the Elgorriaga mushroom route (backwards) into Elgorriaga. There is a chance of a well earned beer at the bar or spa baths in Elgorriaga before heading back to Ituren along the river.
