Itinerary description

The hike begins in a parking area just by the A461, just before Embalse de Gossan & Embalse de Agua.

The hike begins with an easy gradual climb.
KM 0.8 - 1 is a slightly steeper climb.
KM 1-3 is a gradual climb that is constant and quite manageable. Beautiful views across to Rio Tinto and the mines. Original and attractive scenery.
KM 2.5 there is an abandoned hamlet. Beautiful and sad. Only 3 houses now occupied. Very peaceful, very relaxing.
KM 3-4 is a gradual and manageable descent on a broad path with a few loose rocks. Manageable.
KM 4 Cross an open area of former mining activity.
KM 4.3 is where you branch left if you want to do the steep climb that lasts 0.8km and ascends about 85m.
This circular section takes you around the Peña de Hierro with nice views and informative plaques from 1-8. An easier descent on the other side.

THE ALTERNATIVE IS TO NOT BRANCH LEFT AND CONTINUE STRAIGHT TO THE VISITORS AREA OF PEÑA DE HIERRO and rejoin the hike at KM 7.6

KM 7.6 Be sure to go and check out the viewpoint of the Peña de Hierro and look at the tower where part of the original mine was built. Then walk to the section at KM 8.1 and take the sign to the Mirador de los Canaleos.

It would then be a 4km hike to the cemetery of Nerja which links up with the other route titled "JFM8001 Day 2 - Nerva link"

We turned back and hiked the 2.2km back to the car

I have followed this trail  View more

Cette rando est vraiment très sympa
À faire sans hésiter pour découvrir l'ancienne exploitation de la Pena des Hierro
Dommage qu'une partie du massif est brûlée en 2017
