Itinerary description

A brilliant introductory walk where you will admire and learn about the most popular of the white village of Andalusia , Jimena de la Frontera. This river walk makes for a scenic and interesting short and easy trek. A historical artillery manufacturing facility (WW2) is detailed along the way and the path follows a centuries old Roman path along this lush and fertile river valley. At a junction where you can opt to take a right uphill path I chose to continue straight (left path) inspite of what the signage tells you, continue straight along the path until you get to the ‘end’ and onto a wide open gravel hill which leads back into the river and possibility to continue the trek on the other side of the river. You can also enjoy this area to swim or relax before climbing the boring and tedious gravel hill up to Jimena village. On entering the village you will arrive at the top high part of this moorish looking village. Continue straight along the road and paved paths and lanes for about 1km and you will arrive at the castle ruins (currently being repaired and improved) and enjoy impressive views of Jimena and the surrounding area including, on a clear day, the strait and Gibraltar rock. The way back down you can improvise and taking the general direction of the starting point you will eventually get back hopefully in one piece . Beware the steep village hills!! This is a great family walk but children under 4-5 May find the climb to the village a bit taxing. Not good on your knees and certainly not for wheelchair users!! Enjoy

Really nice and enjoyable walk, but I'd do it in reverse next time to get to the river part towards the end of the walk rather than as the beginning. 4 year old found it challenging but fun and didn't require help

Nicky there’s a lovely water hole at the beginning/end where I parked the car, a little down river from there perfect for swimming. You got a hot spring day to do it - beautiful but almost way too hot for this time of year. G la ad I enjoyed it and thanks for your comment 👍🙏

Found it! Spent a good 30-40min swimming in there before tackling the hilly part. We all loved it. Thanks for uploading the route
