A walk in the Têt valley, and in open hill country on south-facing slopes with breathtaking views towards the mountains of the Canigou massif and central Conflent. Along the way, there are several features of historical interest.
Near Olettte, Conflent, Pyrénées-Orientales, France
Duration: about 4 hours walking
We start near the railway station in Joncet, at a chapel by a small car park.
We follow a lane which goes towards Serdinya. The lane crosses the railway line; then it passes a restored ancient mill; then it goes under the railway line; then it crosses the railway line again and it reaches the pretty village of Serdinya.
We follow the road under the railway line. Then we turn to the right to follow a lane with the River Têt on the left and the railway line on the right.
The lane leads to a magnificent, restored medieval bridge over the river. We cross the bridge. We follow a grass track which goes up to towards a busy main road. The track turns to the left. It is a little overgrown. The track meets the road.
We cross that road carefully and we follow a jeep track on the other side.
We follow the track as it climbs the hillside. The track goes past an ostrich farm, then it zig-zags uphill to the ruins at Marighans.
We follow the track to the right. At a fork after a short distance, we go to the left.
At a shoulder of the hill, where the track goes to the right, we take a path which is going up to the left. The path traverses a beautiful open hillside.
Another path joins our path from the right. We go straight ahead, towards a stream crossing.
At the stream crossing, we follow the path to the left. We climb through woodland, then we go across open country. We have a fabulous view across the Têt valley towards the Canigou massif. The remote hamlet of Flassa is above, on the right.
We met a jeep track. The ancient church of Flassa is on the right.
Our descent begins. We follow the jeep track, which zig-zags downhill, all the way back to Joncet. Lower down, the track becomes tarmacked.
Our track goes parallel to and left of a new bypass for Joncet. Then it turns right and goes under that bypass to meet another road.
Here, we can either go left, then shortly afterwards go right and down to the Têt river; or we can go right, into Joncet village, then left (at a crossroads) and down to river.
We cross a bridge over the river and we return to the start of this walk, on the left.

We have done it in the opposite direction, although it is more advisable to do it in the sense described here. To cross the route bypass, you must follow the road until you cross a bridge below it. Good route for the views of Canigó and the path of Flaçà to Serdinyà. Thank you for sharing.
The route description has now been amended to take account of the construction of the new bypass road north of Joncet.
