Itinerary description
This was a 6 day trek in Jotunheimen national park. We parked the car at the parking lot, located 1.7 km from Gjendesheim. It cost 50 nok/day.
Day 1: Gjendesheim - Bessegen ridge
A very steep trail when you are reaching the ridge. Careful must be taken in rainy/windy conditions. The campsite space is quite limited, the terrain is very rocky and not so flat. The view however is one of the most beautiful you can get in the park.
Day 2: Bessegen ridge - Glitterheim
From the Bessegen ridge we hiked up to Glitterheim hut, passing through the magnificent valley of Russvatnet. In Glitterheim hut, the cost to tent is around 130 nok, whereas a bedroom would cost you 550 nok.
Day 3: Glitterheim - Spiterstulen
Our next stop was Spiterstulen, the base station of Galdhøpiggen. The hike is quite moderate, with a slight elevation gain. The hut is very nice and cheaper, with many facilities and supplies.
Day 4: Hike to Galdhøpiggen
At 2469 m, Galdhøpiggen is the highest peak in Norway and whole Scandinavia, it takes around 4h to climb it from Spiterstulen. There was quite a lot of soft and wet snow on the way. There is no need for a guide nor extra equipment.
Day 5: Spiterstulen - Gjendebu
The most challenging day of this trek was day 5, where we did a long hike from Spiterstulen to Gjendebu, passing through a unique and frosty valley. Gjendebu prices for tent and bed are a bit more expensive, costing 180 nok / tent and around 600 nok / bed
Day 6: Ferry Gjendebu - Gjendesheim
We took the early ferry from Gjendebu back to Gjendesheim finishing our trek. The ferry ticket cost around 240 nok.
