Itinerary description
Three of us went to hike this route, which we had planned for some time. We left a car in Istan and went in the other car to El Refugio de Juanar. Based on what we had read, it seemed to be a moderate route, but the result was another story. The first part of the route, in the area of Juanar, is very pleasant and relatively easy, as is the final part entering Istán. When we started descending, we passed some of the well know peaks of Juanar on our right, the Cross, Salto del Lobo, and La Concha, routes that we had done previously. Soon we had difficulty following the route due to the overgrown shrubs and ferns. We got lost several times, which caused some worry due to the rough terrain and the fact that time was running out before nightfall. The condition of this part of the route leaves much to be desired, and the publicity, both on websites and in the information panels in the town of Istán, give the impression that it is a moderate route. They should change these panels or improve the condition of the route. Towards the end of the route we arrived in El Coto de Istán, which is a Mediterranean forest. Now a Park, it is a spectacular green area, embellished by the delightful murmur of river and the birdsong. It also a very interesting network of Moorish irrigation canals. In short, a very nice route, but with some parts much more difficult than the publicity implies. (Sorry for the delay in uploading this route).
