Itinerary description
My route is different at several points than just walk thru on nature trail.
I did visit Chromium mine , you can expect difficulties to reach the mine, due huge rock falling and from leave the mine , due river did ruin the path there.
I did it uphill and back much more tough than just go down.
I did use my 4x4 car on forestry road and mark to you where you can park safely.
I did visit the neighbor valley at an easy viewpoint when you can get out from river valley, go for it ! scenery is breathtaking.
Study weather forecast before go, on rainy winter days it can be dangerous !

Virgin forest landscape. The trail begins next to the source of the Karkotis River and through a virgin forest landscape that crosses the beautiful river valley. It passes near the old, closed, chromium mine and ends in Kakopetria. The route can pass through the church of Agios Nikolaos tis Stegis (12th century), which has excellent frescoes and is included as one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Waypoints
Latest safe off road car park
I had several times walk here on this beautiful forestry road, this time due length of walk I did start to walk to up only on footpath. I used my car to shorten the walk approx 2 miles on each way.
Old Nature trail thru Chromium mine
This road has rock falling serious , this is why road is closed. Use it only own risk, beautiful extra I like to use because of this.
Original nature path to river bellow the mine
It is made for the mine , so wide and easy, but the river ruined at the end so finally not so easy :)
Main building is closed, but back yard buildings are open
You can use it as shelter in rain or if you couldn't finish the tour due night did come earlier that you expected.
Go down here or turn back to a bit easier path what I did mention before
This is the river bed at the end you also have to fight with ruined edge buy the river.
Dried river from here
No more water in river bed, bellow this point water come directly from near by Chromium mine , Kannaoures.
Right way going to chromium mine
Left straight going to trodos camp site and army base
