Itinerary description

See https://mymacedoniablog.wordpress.com/ for more info about sightseeing and hiking in Macedonia.

This is a short but very enjoyable and scenic hike of 7 km with 430 m height difference that takes you along the 8 waterfalls of the village Kamenjane.

Kamenjane is a village near Tetovo at the Sharr Mountains, and it is approximately 50 km or a 50 min drive from Skopje (toll road).

This is an amazing place that seems to come straight from a fairy tale.

I cannot believe that I did not hear about these waterfalls in the more than 15 years that I have been coming to Macedonia. I found out about them on a Facebook page dedicated to Macedonia.

The site with the waterfalls is pretty well maintained with bridges and stairs that make it relatively easy to reach all the waterfalls. I can imagine that it can get slippery after a rainy period.

I was there during a relative dry period in September 2022 and was happily surprised about that there still was quite a lot of water feeding the waterfalls.

There was nobody else at the waterfalls during my entire visit.

The first things to see is an old watermill, make sure you have a peek inside.

Between the 2nd and 3rd waterfall there are stairs going up that lead to nothing and it was a bit tricky to get down again.

Between the 4th and the 5th waterfall there is a fallen tree that has been transformed into stairs to offer you a good view.

After the last waterfall (about 2.5 km from the start) you can decide to take the same trail back or continue the circular hike described here.

The downhill route mainly follows the asphalt road, with a shortcut here and there. Sometimes the shortcuts were a bit steep downhill and you may want to follow the asphalt road instead if you have a problem with that.

Although the last part of this hike is nothing special, this hike still gets 5 out of 5 stars because the waterfalls were very, very enjoyable.
