Itinerary description
To Kritsa and then 16km to Katharo plateau. After Avdeliako 1km, signs for Timios stauros, from thear left through plain for another 1 km aproxx and then again left. There is sign to 'sgouros prinos' 'lakos ohras'. 10min uphill and you arrive at lakos tis ohras.
From Lakkos tis ohras(Pit of Ohra) to summit 3 hours. One hour to Livadia (fields) area at 1540m. and another two on rocky terrain of Lazaros include 2 stops of 10min aproxx. Until Livadia, paths and easy ascent under old oaks. From Livadia no path, hard grey stones and in some points dificult steep ascent.
As you go up excellent view at south,Ierapetra ,chrisi island,Selakano forest, Madara mountain and in some points at north, Katharo, Tsivi mountain ,Ayios Nikolaos .and islands of Dionysades and psira. At summit view is to everywhere.Lasithi ,iraklion ,dia island , selena mountain, spectacular view as all high peaks.Spathi summit in front of you and below the col between lazaros and spathi.Half hour on top and then the way back. The most dificult part ofcorse is descent,special in this type of terrain.Another 3 hours for that include again 2 stops of 10min. Generally trail is not very dificult, is moderate plus. One more time, at the end, we are visit kafeneion of 'zervas' at Avdeliako, for local excellent raki.
Summit is 2085m.
