Itinerary description
Hike around Maenir to two geothermal areas (Hverabotn and Hveradalir)
Start at Ásgardur hut and cross the bridge at campsite. Follow the footpath upp the ridge. After stepping down a small valley and ascending again you will find sticks to the right. follow them. They lead you around Maenir mountain into a nice valley called Hverabotn. At the upper part there is a great geothermal area.
Steep, muddy ascent to the shoulder of Maenir and then down over snow fields and maybe glacier to Hveradalir geothermal area. Hold to the right when its getting steeper. On the right hand side there is a good track on the rocks where you can descend. We "drifted" to deep and had to cross the steep snow field. It may be better to go ahead at KM 10,3. It is less steep and You will find the marking sticks at the end of the snow. The path is close to the last waypoint in my track.
From Hveradalir back to Ásgardur on the jeep track in 90 min.

Hello, just a quick question. I am curious to do this trail, but I am a bit concerned about the fact you "drifted" to dep and you had to cross the steep snow field.
How did it come ??
Thanks for your help!
Vittorio
Hy Vittorio,
it was very foggy, when we hiked there. At KM 10,3 we turned left and came down in a steeper part of the glacier snowfield. It may be better to go ahead at KM 10,3. It is less steep and You will find the marking sticks at the end of the snow. The path is close to the last waypoint in my track.
I have actually been there 10 days ago. This year there is less snow as usual and you will have good conditions.
have a nice trip
