Itinerary description
Kilimanjaro Uhuru Peak in Tanzania.
Due to some technical errors the elevation gain and hiking distance is not accurately recorded.
It was 72 kms both ways hike with starting elevation of 1800 meters at Marangu gate and 5895 meters at Uhuru Summit.
We took Marangu route which is comfortable path with Cabins for overnight stay as compared to Tents accommodation on other routes.
The Porters in the team do an exceptional job by carrying everything from your luggage, raw food, Supplies, Drinking water, Fuel, Gas, Utensils etc etc.
My newly found passion for mountains has pulled me towards the Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania and here I travelled to Tanzania to reach its summit at close to 6000 meters height from sea level.
Mount Kilimanjaro with its three volcanic cones, Kibo, Mawenzi, and Shira, is a dormant volcano in Tanzania.
It is the highest mountain in Africa and the highest single free-standing mountain in the world, with its summit of 5,895 metres (19,341 ft) above sea level and at about 4,900 metres (16,100 ft) high from its plateau base.
Kilimanjaro is also the fourth most topographically prominent peak on Earth.
The first people known to have reached the summit of the mountain were Hans Meyer and Ludwig Purtscheller, in 1889.
The mountain is part of Kilimanjaro National Park and is a major climbing destination. Because of its shrinking glaciers and disappearing ice fields, the mountain has been the subject of many scientific studies.
The summit hike is most demanding due to steep climb and oxygen deficiency and the effects of AMT ( Altitude Mountain Sickness ).
You encounter Ice Glaciers on the mountain only at summit range, all other range is without Snow but can be real cold.
You simply follow the Instructions of your guides, no other way.
They know better to handle you and the plan and to make your journey a successful one.
Their Motto is "Pole Pole, Hakuna Matata" Meaning Slowly Slowly, No worries.
We took 6 days hike plan and succeeded.
Hike of a Lifetime.
