Itinerary description
This hike starts with a ramble through the forest on the NW side of the Kinsol Trestle, eventually joining with the Jack Fleetwood trail which passes alongside the burbling Koksilah River. At the end of the hike you will pass under and then up to the spectacular Kinsol Trestle which is one of the tallest and longest (timber framed) railway structures in the world. The Kinsol Trestle now forms part of the Trans Canada Trail.
The forest trails are sun dappled and lined with salal, oregon grape and ferns. You will pass over a number of small streams which could be muddy in the wet season. The Koksilah is not a large river but is very scenic and is an important fish (salmon) bearing river.
There are pit toilets on the N side of the Trestle and a picnic area. There is great interpretive signage there which explains the trestle's origin and significance.
Parking is at the N. Side of the trestle and is limited (there is larger parking area on the S side of the trestle off of Glen Eagles Road).
The Retreads Hiking Club gives this hike an AVA (American Volksports Assoc.) rating of 2 C.
