Krivan (2494.7m) from Strbske Pleso [es | en]

Esta ruta comienza el lago Strbske Pleso. Esta zona es muy turística y solo es posible dejar el coche en uno de los multiples parkings disponibles. Recomiendo llegar bien pronto, sobre las 5 o las 6 de la mañana, para evitar todos los turistas y asegurarnos un sitio en el parking. Yo dejé el coche en el parking que está justo donde empieza la ruta y pagué 7 Euros por todo el día.
Mucho ojo con equivocarse y meter el coche en el parking del hotel de 5 estrellas que está al lado (Grand Hotel Kempinski High Tatras) porque te soplan 30 Euros por día, o 50 Euros si pierdes el ticket.

La subida a Kriváň se puede dividir en tres zonas bien diferenciadas:

La primera, que va desde el inicio en el lago hasta un poco antes del lago Jamské pleso, supone la mitad del recorrido, 5 Km del total de 10 Km que tiene la subida. Esta parte tiene poca pendiente, es bastante ancha y muy frecuentada por turistas que suben hasta Jamské pleso.

La segunda, de unos 3 Km, empieza en un cartel de desvío a la derecha indicando Kriváň que hay en el camino ancho anterior. Esta parte consiste de una senda bastante mas estrecha que el camino anterior y con el triple de pendiente. Está bien marcada y la zona de rocas tiene muchas rocas puestas planas para facilitar el paso. Desde la primera sección de esta senda podemos ver la cima del Kriváň, detrás de lo que parece una cima anterior. La segunda sección, consistente en una senda de rocas, nos va subiendo poco a poco hasta llegar a la cresta.

La tercera y última parte, de unos 2 Km, transcurre toda por la cresta rocosa que nos sube hasta la misma cima. En esta zona la pendiente se incrementa de nuevo y, aunque el camino está bien indicado, no siempre es fácil ver la siguiente marca a seguir. El camino tampoco es obvio pero con un poco de cuidado y mirando el GPS de vez en cuando avanzaremos sin problemas.
Conforme vamos subiendo el camino se va haciendo un poco mas difícil hasta la última parte donde nos vendrá bien usar un poco las manos. Nunca llega a ser difícil pero si hemos de ir con cuidado. No hay cables, ni cadenas, ni ninguna otra cosa de ese estilo para ayudarnos, pero tampoco es que sea necesario.

Las fantásticas vistas desde la cima nos recompensan por el esfuerzo realizado.

This route starts at the Strbske Pleso lake. This area is very popular and touristic and you can only park the car in one of the several paid parkings available. I recommend arriving quite early, around 5 am or 6 am, in order to avoid the rush hour and ensure a spot in one of the parkings. I left the car in the parking next to the start of the route and I paid 7 Euros for the whole day.
Be careful not to park the car in the parking of the 5-star hotel (Grand Hotel Kempinski High Tatras) next to it because it will cost you 30 Euros, or 50 Euros if you lose the ticket.

The hike to Kriváň can be divided into three well-identified sections:

The first one goes from the start to a bit before Jamské pleso lake. It's 5 Km long which is about half the length of the ascent. The path is quite wide and the slope quite gentle. Many tourists use this path to get to Jamské pleso lake.

The second one, about 3 Km long, starts at a signpost, indicating Kriváň, on the right-hand side of the previous path. The path here is narrower and three times as steep as the previous one. The way is well marked and the rocky area has many rocks on its flat side to facilitate walking. From the first part of this section we can see Kriváň's summit behind what looks like another summit. The second part of this section is mainly rocks which takes us all the way up to the ridge.

The third and last part, about 2 Km long, consists of all the ridge that takes us to the summit. This part is again a bit steeper than the previous one and, while it's well-marked, it's not always easy to spot the next mark to follow. The way to do isn't obvious either but being a bit careful and looking at the GPS from time to time we will stay on track without much trouble.
As we go up difficulty slowly increases without ever getting too difficult. The last 100 meters or so before reaching the summit you may find yourself using your hands a bit. It's never too difficult, we just need to be a bit careful. There are no cables or stairs installed to help us, although they are not really necessary.
