Itinerary description
Beautiful forest half hour from Aghios Nikolaos.Easy to acess, 10km to kritsa and another 5 to kroustas( at the end of main road of Kroustas turn right at the corner of school,in 15min you arrive at pine tree forest(800m.) who is our starting point.) Start with walk around minoan paths(there is info stand ) and continue to flatland and sheepfold. Then ascent left under old holm oak forrest. At the end is settlement (ruins) and then two options: first to go right and round of the small plateau to halasmeno peak and then to water fountain as we do, or for shorter trek go straight and down via plateau to find the road going back.We continue to halasmeno which means broken and after that we met the tide fence from shepherd, the reason why pliers is so popular at crete. The main stop at fount accompanied with hospitality from resident of the place with raki and fresh local cucamber. after that, descent to dirt road and always down under pine trees.
