Itinerary description
La Azohia is beautifully situated at the North East end of the picturesque bay of Puerto de Mazarrón and is a wonderful starting point for a number of walks. As the road ends in La Azohia it is wonderfully quiet and the only sounds are those of the birds, the wind, the boats, and the sea.
After parking our car we went up to the tower of Sante Elena, which is open and which you can go up and also went down to enjoy the beautiful view on the bay from the mirador.
Then we followed the Gr 92 which takes you up to a height of about 150 metres providing you with all kinds of very beautiful views. It goes up and down a little bit and sometimes is quite steep and at places you might be grateful for having and using good walking shoes.
At the point where a narrow track goes down in hairpins to the Cala Munoz we kept following the white red marked path of the Gr 92 which will take you to a height of 260 metres circling around the Cabezo de La Panadera (332m.), giving you very nice views towards the end of the cape where the Bateria de Castillitos is situated.
We turned away from the Gr 92 at the first junction and followed the white/green marked track which will bring you down back to La Azohia.
At this point you will have a marvellous view of the bay again extending far beyond Puerto de Mazarrón. The descent is along a narrow but good track, only at times a little steep and again the view is extensive all the way down.
This is a relatively short walk but it is worthwhile taking your time doing it as there is so much to be enjoyed.
