Itinerary description

Today we started our descent down a 4x4 track/fire break. It was chained across so no access to cars maybe because it was in very bad condition in places even for 4x4 cars but not a problem on foot although the track is stoney its very walkable and the scenery even entering the hike is amazing, towards the bottom you come across some beehives so beware they can get agitated if you make a lot of noise & an abandoned cave house. The trail goes past a lake and again the scenery is stunning as we near the bottom of the descent you have the option should you so wish to take a linear path down to the Rio Verde, today we decided against this option and took the path to the left to make our route circular. We took a narrow track to the left of the 4x4 track which you could also take but the narrow track is far more interesting, it’s easy to follow but was a little over grown in places, you cross over a little pool, via some stones, so could get your feet wet? then carry on making your ascent until you come to the petrified tree cascade, a good place for a photo stop, then begins the steep ascent up. There are some carved steps with hand rails and ropes to help you if you don’t have hiking poles, it’s a beautiful track, easy under foot that zig zags its way up through pine trees, rosemary bushes and gorse bushes so take care as its a little overgrown in places but due to its beauty you hardly notice the ascent. Do stop from time to time to get your breath back and take in the amazing vistas, it’s well worth it.
