Itinerary description
La Marina de la Torre - Garrucha - Bedar late C19/early C20 mineral line and campo return
This is an interesting historical walk along the Bedar iron mines to Garrucha maritime embarkation site almost on the playas between Garrucha and Mojacar playas
Much of the track of the line is still walkable via cuttings and embankments although the stone bridges have either collapsed or been dismantled for local use
There’s an abandoned cortijo alongside the route at roughly 3.5k with evidence of gunshots to the rear elevation
I would like to talk to local experts on any connection to the Civil War as it appears, at first glance, to be an execution site
Some areas of all year water are passed in embalsas which provides for excellent birdwatching
The vistas of the Sierra Cabrera and the foothills of Bedar in which lie the iron ore are outstanding
Many hectares of new olive plantations form much of the return journey
