La Maroma desde La Alcauca en invernal with English version

Este track muestra la ascensión al pico La Maroma, con sus 2069 m, el más alto de la provincia de Málaga, desde el área recreativa de La Alcauca, que pertenece a la población granadina de Pilas de Algaida. Al área recreativa se accede por un carril de tierra que parte de la carretera A-402, a unos 3 km desde la misma. El carril está en relativo buen estado para cualquier vehículo, si bien bastante bacheado. Se ha intentado dotar al itinerario de la máxima circularidad.
La subida se realizó en condiciones invernales extremas, con bastante nieve e hielo en la zona de cumbre, fuertes rachas de viento y visibilidad de apenas 10 metros. Fue necesario llevar bastante ropa de abrigo, así como crampones.
Dejé el vehículo unos 500 m antes de llegar al área recreativa de La Alcauca. Tomé un carril en subida bastante cubierto de vegetación pero en relativa buenas condiciones. El carril termina en un cortafuegos, que seguí hasta su finalización. Tras un pequeño tramo siguiendo una pequeña senda, el recorrido a continuación, durante los siguientes kilómetros, es campo a través. A pesar de no haber sendero y de la pronunciada pendiente, se camina bien porque el matorral no es de gran altura y permite ir marcando la traza más llevadera. En esta ocasión, azotaba fuerte el viento, por lo que fui buscando situarme siempre a sotavento, a la izquierda de la cordal; pero, en ausencia de viento, pueden buscarse otros trazados.
En el cerro de la Majada del Arce, se conecta con la senda que viene desde el área recreativa del Alcázar, en Alcaucín. La senda está balizada como PR. Era en este punto, este día, donde se situaba la línea de nieve. A partir de la misma, las condiciones meteorológicas eran bastante extremas, con fuerte viento, frío intenso y muy poca visibilidad debida a la densa niebla. Lo que para muchos habrían sido condiciones desapacibles, para mí, que amo la montaña, fue la oportunidad de disfrutar de La Maroma en régimen plenamente invernal, como pocas veces se ve.
Tras la azarosa subida, batallando contra el vendaval y parando con frecuencia para chequear la orientación, llegué hasta el alto monolito que señaliza la zona de cumbre. Las fotos de rigor, algo de comida y para abajo, que no era cuestión de quedarse allí contemplando el paisaje. Conocedor de cómo se las gasta la sierra cuando el tiempo se pone feo, tuve la precaución de portar crampones y no lo lamenté. Me los calcé durante los primeros metros de bajada pues había mucho hielo y caerse sin ellos habría sido más que probable. Una vez que el hielo desapareció, se avanzaba con bastante rapidez deslizándose por la nieve, que cubría por completo el sendero, manteniendo el equilibrio para no resbalar.
A la altura del cerro de La Majada, en lugar de tomar el itinerario que hice a la ida, continué por el sendero al objeto de dotar al recorrido de la máxima circularidad. La senda termina en el carril de la Loma de la Víbora. Continué descendiendo por el carril durante unos metros hasta tomar un ancho camino a la derecha que se interna en el pinar. El camino desemboca en la pista que recorre esta parte de la sierra. La tomé hacia la derecha y, tras pasar por la bonita área recreativa de La Alcauca, en la que paré para comer algo y disfrutar de la misma, volví al punto de inicio satisfecho de la intensa experiencia montañera vivida.

La Maroma from La Alcauca in winter

This track shows the ascent to La Maroma peak, with its 2069 m, the highest in the province of Malaga, from the recreational area of La Alcauca, which belongs to the Granada town of Pilas de Algaida. The recreational area is accessed by a dirt lane that starts from the A-402 road, about 3 km from it. The lane is in relatively good condition for any vehicle, although quite bumpy. An attempt has been made to provide the itinerary with maximum circularity.

The climb was carried out in extreme winter conditions, with plenty of snow and ice in the summit area, strong gusts of wind and visibility of just 10 meters. It was necessary to wear a lot of warm clothes, as well as crampons.

I left the vehicle about 500 m before reaching the recreational area of La Alcauca. I took an uphill lane quite covered with vegetation but in relatively good condition. The lane ends in a firewall, which I followed until its completion. After a small section following a small path, the route below, during the following kilometers, is cross-country. Despite the fact that there is no path and the steep slope, you walk well because the scrub is not of great height and allows you to mark the most bearable line. On this occasion, the wind was hitting strongly, so I was always looking to position myself in the leath, to the left of the ridge; but, in the absence of wind, other routes can be sought.

On the hill of the Majada del Arce, it connects with the path that comes from the recreational area of the Alcázar, in Alcaucín. The path is marked as PR. It was at this point, this day, where the snow line was located. From it, the weather conditions were quite extreme, with strong wind, intense cold and very little visibility due to the dense fog. What for many would have been unpleasant conditions, for me, who love the mountain, was the opportunity to enjoy La Maroma in a fully winter regime, as is rarely seen.

After the random climb, battling against the gale and stopping frequently to check the orientation, I reached the high monolith that signals the summit area. The photos of rigor, some food and down, that it was not a question of staying there contemplating the landscape. Knowing how the saw spends them when the weather gets ugly, I had the precaution of wearing crampons and I didn't regret it. I put them on during the first few meters of descent because there was a lot of ice and falling without them would have been more than likely. Once the ice disappeared, it advanced quite quickly sliding through the snow, which completely covered the path, keeping the balance so as not to slip.

At the height of the hill of La Majada, instead of taking the itinerary I made on the way, I continued along the path in order to provide the route with maximum circularity. The path ends in the lane of the Loma de la Víbora. I continued descending the lane for a few meters until I took a wide path to the right that goes into the pine forest. The road leads to the track that runs through this part of the mountain range. I took it to the right and, after passing through the beautiful recreational area of La Alcauca, where I stopped to eat something and enjoy it, I returned to the satisfied starting point of the intense mountain experience lived.
