Itinerary description
Circular route starting at the Posto Florestal do Fanal, then dropping down some 1000+ steps to Levada dos Cedros, stopping briefly to admire a cascading waterfall.
Follow the Levada for a few hours (the path was in need of repair at points with rock falls in places, so make sure to wear good footwear. Route not recommended for people suffering with vertigo). Once you come across a downhill bike track crossing, take the bike track up the hill (right turn). Keep an ear and eye out for cyclists.
Follow the bike track up the hill to the R209, cross the road and follow the track along the side of a crater.
Finally, enter the Cedros forest at Fanal, and climb to the top of the hill to fully admire the old, gnarled forest on the right, and the view out so sea on your left.
