Itinerary description
Experience and discover the astonishing high-mountain world close-up without being an athlete and you'll be able to make out (even visit on the spot) some of the lakes on there, as well as to stare at the Spanish Peninsula's highest peaks.
Waypoints
Fork of ways (the one on the left goes up to Veleta's Summit and the other on the right goes along the southern Veleta's and Mulhacen's ridges towards Capileira). Our way is on the right.
Laguna Grande de Río Seco
El punto final de nuestro itinerario. This is the end of the route.
It is a little pond located underneath Veleta's peak in its southeast side.
Veleta river sets off from this lake, which flows in turn into Poqueira river (or Mulhacén river). This lake, as well as the other ones located on Sierra Nevada's southern slope, pours some of the creeks accountable for having moulded the upper Alpujarra's essential orography.
Along the way, if we refine our sight a little, we can make them out away in the distance.
Wonder of nature washed by three lakes, and always watched by Mulhacén's flat-ridged summit.
Nevero
In this part of the way we usually find this piece of perpetual snow, which is advisable to skirt it (should you don't have the appropriate footwear) till returning to the road again.
Laguna de las Yeguas (Mares Lake) watched from the road. On its edge runs drag lift line "Laguna".
They add up to 5 ponds. Located just on the top of Laguna de las Yeguas (Mares Lake).
Refugio La Carihuela
It's just diverting a little bit from the road, just before taking up going down the southern slope.
