Itinerary description
This is a nice forest walk. Not strenuous, but with lots of small hills.
This was one of the first areas on the Lake where timber was harvested. Vestiges of the original forest still exist in the form of many large stumps, some have become "nurse trees" and bear the marks where "springboards" were inserted to aid the fallers.
The forest has again been harvested and the trail takes you through a recent clearcut. A huge wind storm hit the area in Dec. 2018 and there is evidence of that in blown down or snapped off trees.
The hike takes a diversion down to a pebble beach on the lake, offering good swimming or you can wait until you reach the sand beach at Lakeside Park.
Finally, the last segment of the hike is along a floating boardwalk which offers splendid views of the south arm of the Lake and the mountains on the north shore.
The Retreads Hiking Club gives this hike an AVA rating of 2 C.

The holes were for "springboards". Fallers would stand on these to cut down the tree.
