Itinerary description
We set off near the Hotel Ametlla in Roques Daurades. You have a choice of taking the coastal path or following the road round. We took the road as it really windy and blustery and weren’t sure if we’d be able to cross the stepping stones over Estany d’en Gras (we wouldn’t as the water was covering half the stones).
The walk is easy to follow, red and white GR markers painted on the rocks or the white bollards marking the route.
We passed Platja de l’Estany and the restaurant - Balco de l’Estany, which was closed at the beginning of November 21, so make sure you phone ahead if you’re thinking of stopping there.
We followed the path over rocks, through trees, across beaches. The colours were spectacular, turquoise sea with some huge waves spraying us, rainbows shining in the spray. A great walk on a windy day. It was still hot so if you’re going in summer, make sure you go early and wear suncream.
We walked about 7kms passing platja de l’Estany podrit until we reached Platja de l’Illot. Stopped for a snack and then turned round and went back again following the same route. This time, the wind had died down and we took the coastal path back into town for lunch.
A great walk!
