Itinerary description

the route is all above 1500m ascent (high point 2200m or so) and there are great views of the Río Lanjarón valley, which is stunning. It uses a combination of 4x4 tracks and footpaths, including one particularly nice path at the end of the route.
The least enjoyable bit is a section up a narrow firebreak which comes towards the start of the route after a 2km or so warm-up on 4x4 tracks which wind reasonably gently uphill, but the firebreak is ok if taken slowly but tedious! We followed an acequia that goes past the abandoned Refugio Ventura, which is an interesting structure that blends into the landscape, (made a nice lunch stop). After that we starting descending down some very nice paths that took us last the still-used Refugio Tello? Looked pretty run down to me but guess it’s still used by some?

From Lanjarón to the start of the route, it’s approx 13km along a 4x4 track. It’s a pretty rough & dusty track for ordinary cars, but not a problem for 4x4 cars!
