Itinerary description

Our trail follows the GR-92 through the Parque del Foix. Covering 2,900 hectares, the Foix park is on the edge of the Garraf Massif, just inland of the Sitges-Vilanova stretch of the Costa Daurada coast. Most of the park consists of a mountainous plateau of carboniferous limestone which rises to around 460m (1,500ft), while the edge of the park on the Penedès plain is formed from sedimentary rocks.

For such a small area the park contains great biodiversity. The mixture of landscape, lake and coastal and mountain climate sustains Holm-oak and pine forests, extensive myrtle groves, and rough pastures and vineyards on the edge of the park. This provides a home for an extensive fauna of insects, fish, birds and reptiles.

Our path varies from farm roads to narrow, rocky footpaths and along the way we'll pass by the Castell de Castellet (10th cen.), and numerous masia ruins.

Castellet i la Gornal

Castellet i la Gornal: Situated on an impressive and commanding site at the northern end of the Parc de Foix, with superb views over the impressive Foix reservoir, the Castle of Castellet dominates the small (and rather well-to-do) settlement that has grown up around it. The castle, heavily restored, is famous for its attractive grouping of square and round towers, and the adjacent (and separate) hillside chapel. Built in the 10th century, it is first referred to in a document dated 977AD, although most of what you see today is the result of a series of mediaeval rebuilding, reflecting its major strategic importance during the period of the reconquest of Catalonia by the Christians from the Moors, when it was owned by the Counts of Barcelona, and through the mediaeval period (when it was a possession of the joint Catalonian and Aragonese Crown) until the 16th century. Thereafter, the castle slowly fell into ruin.

Una ruta muy fácil de seguir, pero debes tener algo de resistencia ya que es largo el recorrido :)
