Itinerary description
In the pine forests below the Las Lajas campsite, on paths leading to down to Vilaflor, there can be found the ruined remains of a number of silviculture settlements. In the early twentieth century, the resin from the Canary Pines was used to make a medicinal oil called Miera. The crumbling walls of the dwellings and scars on some of the larger pines are all that now remain. The turn-around point in the walk is a spectacular viewpoint into the Barranco del Cuervo, which is slightly off the trail. Early in the walk there is a short scramble up an embankment where the main path encounters a second tunnel under the main Teide/Vilaflor road. After this, the route follows a water pipe for some distance until it reaches a track on a bend, which the route then follows. Later in the walk, the route follows a fairly indistinct path across a number of barrancos. The turn off for this path is difficult to spot so care needs to get taken not to continue in the obvious forest track, which is what I did after the barranco viewpoint. The first short deviation from the route, before the viewpoint, climbs to an information point by the second Silviculture settlement.

A nice walk. Easy to follow with the GPS. Quite a lot is on gravel roads which isn't quite as interesting, but necessary to make it into a loop.
