Itinerary description
Ascent to Mount Camaleon, named for the amazing resemblance of its summit with the silhouette of the reptile. From the summit there are wonderful views of the spectacular peaks and walls of the Tsaranoro massif and beyond towards the Andringitra massif. From Camp Catta the path crosses a forest where it is easy to see ring-tailed lemurs (catta) and many species of birds. The path then ascends the west flank of the mountain.
In our case, after crossing the forest, a person of the group felt sick, so we went to camp Tsarasoa from where he could return to camp catta by car, while the rest of the group continued the ascent on the east side of the mountain and we descended by the west slope, walking a circular trek.
Excursion highly recommended.
