Walk on the Tsanfleuron glacier (close to Les Diablerets) with beautifull views on some famous Alp peaks
Glacier 3000 is a resort on the Tsanfleuron glacier offering all opportunities for skiing in winter and for hiking in summer. It can be reached via cable car from Col du Pillon/Les Diablerets.
This track, which is actually a combination of cable car and walking starts at Col du Pillon where we take the cable car to Cabane and another cable car to Scex Rouge. The reason the cable car track is included here, is because it's part of the experience; slowly rising from 1550 to 2900 meters in a panoramic gondola you see on one side the valley of Les Diablerets becoming smaller and smaller and on the other side the alps unfolding in front of your eyes.
In Scex Rouge we take a skilift which brings us some 50 meters down to the foot of the Tsanfleuron glacier (see waypoint "start of glacier walk"). Due to the atypical spring in Europe, the glacier could not so well be distinguished from the rest: it was all covered in snow. A broad prepared track of 2,5 km brings you via the 3000 meter high Oldenhorn (see waypoint with same name) to the other part of the glacier. During the walk, looking south-eastwards you can constantly enjoy the view of many of the 24 4000+ peaks of the Alps like Eiger, Mönch, Jungfrau, Mont Blanc and Matterhorn (see pictures). The trail ends at a rock needle called Quille du Diable (see waypoint with same name) with breathtaking views down to the valley below.
Return via the same route.
Although the walk is short and technically not difficult, being a glacier walk I prefer to qualify this route as moderate.
