Los Sauces - Cañada de las Ánimas (Sierra de las Nieves, Málaga)

Algunas veces, desde el mismo principio, tienes el instinto de que la ruta va a ser dura sin saber por qué a priori. Nada más salir del área recreativa de Los Sauces, vemos que, debido a las lluvias de los últimos días, el barro cubre gran parte del camino y toda la hierba está empapada de agua. No hay problema, llevamos botas, pero andar con tanto barro pegado a la suela se hace difícil cuesta arriba. Llegamos a una propiedad privada, el cortijo del Palancar, poco después del waypoint "Derecha". Allí tres perros salen corriendo y ladrando hacia nosotros pero el pastor les grita y se vuelven. Dice que alguna vez han mordido a alguien si no se les asusta. La propiedad es privada por lo que es aconsejable pasar sin perros y no en grandes grupos de personas.
Tras pasar y cerrar una "angarilla" (esta palabra es típica del medio rural del sur de España y no está en el diccionario) que nos dice el pastor, llegamos al cortijo del Peñón de Ronda, no muy lejos del cual está el Pilar de la Breña a tope de agua, por lo que no necesitamos llevar mucha a nuestras espaldas. Más adelante nos encontraremos otra fuente, el Pilar de los Corralones, también con abundante agua. Llegamos a las pequeñas pero idílicas lagunas de los Corralones, donde comemos y después pasamos y cerramos otra "angarilla". Aquí, debido a problemas del GPS, nos desviamos bajando demasiado hasta la cañada, y tuvimos que remontar montaña arriba hasta donde empiezan los pinsapares, una subida bastante dura y que nos desgastó mucho.
Nada más entrar en los pinsapares, hay que tener cuidado porque este sendero, muy poco frecuentado, no está tan bien cuidado como otros, y aunque hay hitos de piedras, es fácil perderse.
Tras llegar a la Cueva Oscura y llegar a la Cañada de las Ánimas, dimos media vuelta. Aconsejo seguir solo el sendero de vuelta para hacer la ida y la vuelta de esta ruta para así evitar la fuerte subida que tuvimos que hacer hasta el pinsapar.
En cuanto a vida salvaje, solo vimos dos o tres jabalíes adultos con tres o cuatro crías.
Salimos a las 10:45 y llegamos de vuelta a las 19:35 con dos paradas generosas para comer y otras tantas para echar fotos, vídeos, etc.
Una ruta preciosa con vistas increíbles en todo momento. Unas montañas de ensueño para deleitarse con los colores y el pintoresco escenario en todo momento de la ruta.

Sometimes, from the very beginning, you have a gut feeling that the route is going to be a hard one, without knowing necessarily why beforehand. As soon as we leave Los Sauces recreation area, we see that, due to the rains of the last few days, the mud covers much of the road and all the grass is soaked in water. No problem, we're wearing boots, but it's hard going uphill with so much mud on our soles. We arrive at a private property, Cortijo del Palancar, shortly after the waypoint "Derecha". There three dogs run up to us barking loud, but the shepherd shouts at them and they turn around. He says they've bitten some people if they're not scared. The property is private so it is recommended to go through the property without dogs and not in large groups of people.
After passing by and closing an "angarilla" (this word is typical of the rural areas of southern Spain and is not in the dictionary, meaning a door for the livestock), we arrive at the farmhouse of Peñón de Ronda, not far from which is the Pilar de la Breña with a lot of water. At this point we realize we do not need to carry much of it on our bacºkpacks. Later we will find another fountain, the Pilar de los Corralones, also with plenty of water. We arrive at a couple of idyllic small lagoons where we eat and then pass by and close another "angarilla". Here, due to GPS technical problems, we went too far down to a ravine, and had to go up the mountain to where the pinsapo woods are, a climb that wore us down ("pinsapo", also called Spanish fir is a species of fir tree which is endemic to this mountain range in Málaga, Cádiz and northern Morocco, and it's very rare at these latitudes. You can only find these forests further north, in the Pyrenees, but a different kind of fir tree).
As soon as you enter the woods, you have to be careful because this path, very little frequented, is not as well maintained as others, and even though there are cairns, it is easy to get lost.
After reaching "Dark Cave" and the "Ravine of the Souls", we turned around. I recommend to follow only the path back to make the round trip of this route in order to avoid the steep climb to the woods.
Regarding wild life, we only spotted two or three wild boars with some offprings.
We started walking at 10:45 and arrived at 19:35, with two longer pauses for lunch and some more to take pictures, videos, etc.
It's a beautiful route with incredible views al the time. Dreamlike mountains to delight yourself with the colors and picturesque scenery throught the whole route.
