Itinerary description

Nice walk through woods, pasture and valleys around Losheimergraben, in the German-speaking part of Belgium. I did this walk in winter time, on a grey day with snow. The route is on both parts of the water divide between Meuse and Rhine. You pass by the source of the Our River. Part of the track is on a RAVeL cycling path on the former railway track Vennquerbahn. Part of the track is on a cross-country skiing route from Losheimergraben. Take care you do not walk on the ski track. Along the route you will only find a restaurant in Losheimergraben. There is ample parking along the road at the start.
From the start, you walk along the road through the hamlet of Losheimergraben to the German B265 road. You follow the road a short while and then take a forest road taking you past the source of the Our River down into the Our valley. You leave the Our valley to get onto the RAVeL cycling path, and follow this uphill for a while. You then leave it on a path taking you down the Ensebach valley. Near a US memorial on the Ensebach, which I missed, the path takes you out of the valley along and through pasture up to the hamlet of Lanzerath. From Lanzerath, you take a field road through pasture towards the GR56 hiking trail. Just before the woods you join the GR56 which takes you downhill through the woods to the Frankenbach valley. You follow this valley upstream on a paved forest road on the west side (or alternatively on the GR56 on the east side). The valley is a nature reserve with wetlands, woods and meadows. The forest road climbs out of the valley towards Buchholz. You cross the valley on a path to the east side and then pass through the hamlet of Buchholz, a former station on the Vennquerbahn. You pass below the former railway, and cross the Warche valley. From here you slowly ascend back to Losheimergraben through forests in the Reumesvenn area.
