Itinerary description
The first part of the trail follows a way. When passing a wooden bridge, the trail goes steep up trough the wood. After walking up the hill, you will see some ruins called Gullstølen. This was a cottage which was own by the Norwegian prime minister Christian Mickelsen in the beginning of the 20th century. There is a limited view from Gullstølen (284 masl.), but there is a wonderful view towards west after some minutes. When you come to the view-point, you are almost at Gullsteinen. Gullsteinen is a 351 meters high mountain, the view is becoming better, but it's still very limited towards south. The trail goes through the wood still, and it's not opening up before you reach the hillside of Løvstakken. When you come to a rope and fences, you are at the beginning of the raise up to Løvstakken. It's going steep and it's hard, but still easy to reach the top. The view will get better and better, and it's now starting to be a very nice view towards east and south. You will come to a water after the hard part. There are two climbs the last part, but I recommend the one going to right before the water. The top has a wonderful view in all directions. In west, we can see the islands outside Bergen. We can see a lot of mountains surrounding Bergen in the other directions. Løvstakken (477 masl.) is one of the "so-called" seven mountains surrounding Bergen, and can also offer a wonderful view of the city and the valley called Bergensdalen, or Bergen Valley. In south-west, it's possible to see Folgefonna, which is the third largest glacier in Norway. There are several opportunities of taking another way down. Krohnegården, Melkeplassen, Gyldenpris, Løvstakklien and Krambua are some of the places with a trail to Løvtakken. You can of course also take the same route on the way down.
