Itinerary description
Maja e Roshit or Rosni Vrh is yet another mountain located right at the border between Crna Gora (Montenegro) & Shqiperia (Albania). It ranks as the third highest peak of Montenegro after the two Kolata summits and is approachable from Valbona or Vusanje (see separate Vusanje - Roshit track).
This one way route starts from the main road of Valbona Valley not far from the old center (Qender) and takes by calculation (for average fitness levels) 10:40h return, or around 6:20h to reach Maja e Roshit (one way). Up to the hamlet Kukaj you could actually go by car, thus saving a good 2km of walking distance each way.
Another starting point is located further east, suitable if you approach from the guesthouses down the valley (see Kukaj Circle track).
In Kukaj Tahiri's family (the upper house) offers coffee, cold beverages and snacks as well as a proper meal (on order only). Shortly after passing Kukaj you will reach a fenced meadow where a water channel offers the last chance to fill up, in the height of summer you may have to follow the channel for a bit to find water.
From the hamlet onwards, the track should be marked all the way to the summit by the time of writing.
But don't worry the trail is actually easy to follow, just stick to the old dirt road until you arrive at a big rock where an arrow signals you to take a well-trodden donkey path that winds up the hill through light forest and across huge meadows, some of the most beautiful places in the valley between May and early June.
Leaving the forest behind you reach Stanet e Plan, a summer pasture, where you may encounter Tahiri's brother. In this case there would be another chance to get some more water, but don't rely on it.
Head for the gap between the mountains where the pass (Qafa e Roshit) is located. Once you're there turn right and ascend over the talus to the saddle, where you can see the border pyramid and meet the marked trail that comes up from Vusanje.
The initial part consists of very steep grassy slopes. Before you get to the final stretch to the summit, you arrive at a small plateau.
Please note that this track was recorded in early June when still a lot of snow was present, the actual summer trail might be slightly different.
13th highest mountain of the Albanian Alps, also known as Accursed Mountains, Projkletije or Bjeshket e Namuna.

One of the most beautiful peaks on Prokletije 😊
Agreed, I think beyond being rewarding, it's also the easiest to reach 2.500 meter peak, making it even more attractive. :)
