Itinerary description

A great geological wonder. This trek follows a dry(ish) rocky river bed (rio Manilva, damed further upstream) ) before you take a right turn up an incline which runs parralel to the Utrera gorge- a uniquely spectacular sedimentary rock formation in the area littered with caves. You eventually get to a wide gravel track that meanders for a couple of KM uphill to reach the summit of this rock plateau where you can enjoy great views of Casares and the coast all the way to Gibraltar. You may need to take a detour off this particular route to get the best views once you are at this top. You will see a road and plenty of wind turbines too. You then need to get to that road from where you will turn left and walk for about 400 mtrs where you will clearly see a sendero signpost. Take this track off the road and follow it downhill. The last stretch is over large irregular boulders in places but nothing treacherous. Little or no water was flowing along this ancient water course despite heavy rains we had seen in March 2018. You will get to a level area with views to the coast in what can resemble a lush Swiss valley in the spring. The trek to the starting point from here is a pleasant narrow path

The gate to get off the main road and back on the track is not obvious as it is chained up and you have to undo wires and a chain

You can or this trail
