Itinerary description

If you have ever stood on the viewing platform at Mapleton Falls and wondered where the waterfall was, there is a solution. You can make your way 3km's down to the bottom of the falls and get the best view. Start at Mapleton Falls Lookout then walk over to Peregrine Lookout. From there, follow the NP track 100m north and head into the bush when you see a faint over grown logging track on the left. After 400m you the track stops and you follow the slippery dirt ridge down about 500m. Then push your way through the thick lantana/sharp vine undergrowth, to the left and into the creek line. Once in the creek its easy to rock hop up stream about 600m to the base of the falls. Whilst the water drops 80m down onto the rocks, its rare to see more than a small flow. I would highly recommend using a gps tracker to do this hike as the trip to the bottom invoves a lot of bush bashing and it could be difficult finding your way back to the start. Only attempt this if you are an experienced off track hiker and are prepared for some steep slopes and lots of scratches. For more information, visit our Facebook Hike site- "Take A Hike- SE Qld".
