Itinerary description

An excellent (although quite tough) route, with varied terrain. The first "circle' is easier than the second, so you could make this a shorter walk by just doing the first circle. You would turn right when you meet the track at the top of the climb after the beehives, and walk back to your car along this main track. (See waypoint). The second "circle" involves some tricky navigation and at September 30th 2022 was overgrown on the uphill section. This second circle follows part of Patrick Elvin's Route 69. It was still entirely passable but it would be very easy to get lost and go astray unless you follow the wikiloc track carefully. But it's a great loop with fantastic views. Long trousers definitely recommended for the second circle. I've called this "difficult" - not because of the distance, nor the ascent - but because of the tricky navigation throughout.

Make sure dogs are on a lead because there may be loose cows in the field, and you are going to pass directly past a farmhouse. Once through the gate, bear left and head towards the farm building ahead and pick up a rough track which heads downhill.

BEAR RIGHT. Climb over some flattish rocks on the ground and go to the right.

After stepping over the flattish rocks, bear around to the right for a few seconds (there are bushes on your left) and then immediately go left and up, following a rocky gully uphill. From here up to the "picnic spot" there is a rough path but it is not easy to follow due to overgrown vegetation. Keep looking underfoot as the colour of the path is brown and has some gun cartridges on the floor from time to time (these look like blue or green plastic cigarette lighters).
