Itinerary description

We went to Ceuta with Kath´s Walking group from 3 to 5 March 2010. During the 3 days we participated in 3 walks organised and guided by Viajes Trujillo.
On the 4th of March we went to walk in Morocco. The plan was to go to Beliunech and walk to the cliffs above the Island of Perejil (Parsley), which is Spanish territory and some years ago, the cause of a serious diplomatic incident between Spain and Morocco. From there we were going to walk along an approved route around the mountain of the Dead Woman and back to the village. We started the walk at the point marked START, and walked through the village to the cliffs, but there we were stopped by a soldier who would not allow us to pass. Our guide negotiated with him and his companion, and they finally let us go to look over the cliff to see the Island of Perejil. We then had to turn back and our guide took us up a very ancient path to a Magnesium Mine which has been in disuse for centuries. There we had our snack and returned to the village of Beliunech. We had to walk about 2 km out of the village to get on out coach, as it was unable to take us up the hill because of the condition of he roads following the recent rains. Apart from the disappointment of not being able to do the planned route, we enjoyed the one we did. The climb up the old Mine road was a bit difficult, but apart from this the rest was easy. The weather was good. NOTE: Look at the photo of the Dead Woman Mountain, it is really spectacular.
